Central Oregon’s Mt Bachelor has been an elusive photographic subject for me during my career as a landscape photographer. Mt Bachelor is a mere 22 miles from my home in Bend, Oregon, it is the largest ski resort in the Pacific Northwest, I pass by it weekly on my way to photo shoots and yet I’ve never captured a photo of Mt Bachelor that I was especially excited about until now. Below is my newest and favorite fine art photo of Mt. Bachelor to date!
Mt Bachelor Fine Art Photograph
I’ve shot in and around Mt. Bachelor countless times in the past, with few worthy images of Bend Oregon’s signature mountain. Mt. Bachelor has an attractive shape and its snow melt patterns make for a strong photographic element but an elegant and attractive foreground for Mt. Bachelor’s stately slopes is what I’ve never found. Sure I’ve taken lots of photos of Mt. Bachelor and many have been with my large format camera. Last summer, one of my photographic missions was to hunt down that elusive foreground for this new Mt Bachelor photo. I searched long and hard in the Sparks Lake and Tumalo Mountain area before I finally found the appropriate foreground for this Mt Bachelor photograph. This lush scene, glowing with red indian paintbrush and pink monkeyflowers evokes the image of royalty purveying an opulent and manicured garden. Except….this is a wild and luxurious alpine garden which Mt. Bachelor surveys. My collectors will decide if this beautiful garden of Central Oregon wildflowers is a fitting foreground for my newest photo of Mt. Bachelor.
